Alternative Options-

What Is a Rangefinder?

When looking to invest in a device that measures distance on a golf course. You have two options, a GPS watch or a Rangefinder.

Rangefinders are generally speaking that bit more accurate as your getting exact distances to the pin. Which is why most players opt for rangefinders over GPS watches. Saying that, some players still rather a GPS due to its ease of use.

Using a rangefinder you simply look through the scope, aim at your target and press the button on top of the device.

Modern rangefinders now offer a wide variety of features, such as pin lock and vibration confirmation. As well as slope adjustment technology.

What Is Slope Mode On a Rangefinder & What Are The Benefits?

Slope Mode On Rangefinders Explained

Slope Mode enables you to not only get the distance on the ground, but the slope adjusted distance also.

The slope adjusted distance gives far more of an accurate representation of how far the shot will actually play by adding or taking distance according to slope. This is why its such a great feature.

The majority of modern rangefinders will feature this technology. While also providing a slope on/off switch, so that you can still use the rangefinder in tournaments.

It is worth noting that you will not be allowed use slope adjustments in tournament play. However this feature is still massively helpful in practice rounds or any causal rounds for that matter.

For instance when you and your buddies go play a new course, it can be quite hard to judge with the naked eye just how far a shot plays up or down hill.

As well as this after using this feature a few times on your regular golf courses, you’ll have far more of an idea of how elevation affects key holes. This is something that will stand to you in tournaments!

Overall- Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope

Overall Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope, Garmin Approach Z82 Golf GPS Rangefinder
Garmin Approach Z82 Golf GPS Rangefinder
Pros
  • Full Color 2-D Hole Layover
  • Laser Arc Feature
  • Hazard View
  • Vibration Confirmation
Cons
  • Some Might Prefer Cheaper Alternative

Garmin Approach Z82 GPS Rangefinder

If your looking for a top of the line rangefinder that provides accurate distances and a helpful visual representation. The Z82 Rangefinder could be the perfect fit for your game.

The Garmin Approach Z82 GPS Rangefinder is in our opinion the best rangefinder on the market today.

  • Scope- 450 Yards
  • Measurement Metric- Yards/Meters
  • Tournament Legal- Yes
  • Slope On/Off Function- Yes

What we loved about the Z82 rangefinder the most had to be the 2D colored layover. Without having to press any additional buttons a visual representation of the hole is shown on the left corner of the screen.

I personally found this feature particularly useful from tee boxes, as I felt it just gave me a greater understanding and feel for the overall hole. All before I even had to hit my first shot!

On top of this, I also loved the way it provided distances to important hole features such as hazards.

Any area I lasered to find out the distance was also shown on the hole layover in the form of a black arc. As seen below.

Garmin Approach 2D Layover & Laser View
2D Layover & Laser View

The Z8Z laser also vibrates when you’ve locked on the flag. This provided even more assurances that I was in fact hitting the pin and not something in the background.

As well as this, you can also easily change between meters or yards and change between slope on/off settings.

Overall, simply the best rangefinder out there today!

Budget- Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope

Budget, Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope, Wosports H100 AG Rangefinder
Wosports H100 AG Rangefinder
Pros
  • Great Value
  • Flag Lock
  • Vibration Confirmation
Cons
  • Not As Feature Packed As More Premium Models

Wosports H100 AG Rangefinder

If your on a budget and your looking for the best cheap rangefinder. Look no further!

The Wosports H100 is our favorite budget rangefinder on the market today. Here your getting a rangefinder that has all the features you need, but for half the price of a premium one.

  • Scope- 800 Yards
  • Measurement Metric- Yards/Meters
  • Tournament Legal- Yes
  • Slope On/Off Function- Yes

As far as budget rangefinders go, I felt pretty confident using the H100 that I was getting pretty good distances.

Of course I wanted to make sure of this, so I tested it against my own rangefinder, the Bushnell Pro XE.

For the most part distances were the exact same! On the very odd occasion there was a yard difference between the two.

But let’s be real here unless your a tour pro, one yard is not going to make a difference! Particularly for the budget price.

Outside of this, you get all the regular features such as flag lock, vibration confirmation and a slope on/off function. You can also change between yards and meters.

We did like the fact that the Wosports H100 had a slope on/off feature as most of the cheaper rangefinders don’t provide this option.

As far as limitations go, there really wasn’t much to complain about. We did feel that the flag lock and vibration confirmation probably took a second or two longer then some of the more premium brands.

The Bushnell Tour V5 is for the players out there, for those of you that really want the most accurate slope adjustments.

  • Scope- 400+ Yards
  • Measurement Metric- Yards/Meters
  • Tournament Legal- Yes
  • Slope On/Off Function- Yes

You are probably already familiar with Bushnell as a brand and if you are, you know how highly regarded they are.

We found the V5 to be no different.

We could definitely feel the difference in quality with the Bushnell V5. The optics were super clear and bright. While the magnifying lens was also easy to adjust.

Getting yardages to the pin was basically automatic thanks to the super quick vibration confirmation.

This is what you’re really paying for when you buy a premium brand like Bushnell. Much like my own XE, I found the slope adjustments on the V5 to be very accurate and helpful.

While this is a hard one to gauge precisely. I did find that if I just trusted the adjusted distance and hit the confirming club, I was virtually always pin high.

Bushnell pride themselves on having the best slope adjustment algorithm and with every new model of Bushnell I try I tend to agree more and more.

Of course this feature can be turned on and off so that you can play tournament golf. While you can also switch freely between yards or meters!

The R1 is simply the best priced rangefinder of its kind on the market today.

With the Precision Pro R1 your getting all the latest features on offer, but for half the price!

  • Scope- 600 Yards

What we think makes the Precision Pro R1 such a brilliant buy, is the MySlope functionality. This really is quite a unique offering that we found very interesting.

Here, your getting more personalized distances based on not just elevation, but factors such as temperature and wind also!

However, it doesn’t stop there! When you pair you precision pro app with the rangefinder, you get further adjustments based on your regular distances and ball flight.

The more you put into the app, the more you’ll get out of this feature.

Of course the Precision Pro R1 also offers a GPS reading. Meaning on top of the distances you get for the pin from the laser feature, you’ll also get front back and middle.

Overall a really good product that really does cover all areas!

Durability- Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope

Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope, Durability Precision Pro NX9
Precision Pro NX9
Pros
  • 6X Magnification Lens
  • Vibration Confirmation
  • Shock Proof Design
  • Magnetic Cart Mount
Cons
  • Does Not Factor Wind & Elements Like R1 Model

Precision Pro NX9

If your looking for a long lasting and durable rangefinder that also provides slope readings. Than we think this might be the one for you.

The Precision Pro NX9 provides all the features you need in a good rangefinder and in a shock proof design.

So if your worried about spending the money on a rangefinder for fear of breaking or damaging it. The Precision Pro NX9 is a great option for you.

  • Scope- 600 Yards
  • Measurement Metric- Yards/Meters
  • Tournament Legal- Yes
  • Slope On/off Function- Yes

The Precision Pro NX9 is one of those rangefinders that just fits perfectly in your hand. You can really feel its sturdiness as you hold it.

The rubber construction on the outer layer makes for a grippy surface. Making it easy to pick up and more importantly harder to drop!

The Precision Pro NX9 offers 600 yards of scope with pin lock technology and trust us when we say this pin lock technology is super quick.

The NX9 is as close to a premium rangefinder without the sky high prices you’ll likely ever see. You also get the option of slope readings, which can be turned on or off via the switch on the side of the rangefinder.

Tour Preferred- Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope

Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope, Tour Preferred Bushnell Pro XE
Bushnell Pro XE
Pros
  • Takes The Local Elements Into Account
  • Pinseeker Technology
  • Vibration Confirmation
  • 7X Magnification
Cons
  • Larger & Heavier Then other Rangefinders

Bushnell Pro XE

If you want to use the same rangefinder as all the guys on tour. The Pro XE is the one you want. It is also the rangefinder I myself use.

What makes the Bushnell Pro XE so well liked on tour, is the adjusted elements feature.

Bushnell takes slope technology a step further with tour trusted compensated distances.

  • Scope- 1300 Yards
  • Measurement Metric- Yards/Meters
  • Tournament Legal- Yes
  • Slope On/Off Function- Yes

I’ve been using the XE for almost 12 months now and this is something that I do find pretty cool. This technology adds not only slope, but also temperature and barometric pressure to provide true “play as” distances.

This means your getting adjusted distances that are unique to your playing environment! Pretty cool right?

This is something I definitely feel the benefit of in the winter months as the ball doesn’t travel as far in the cold conditions.

On top of this, the Pro XE also provides an on/off switch for the slope function. Making it fully legal for tournament play. Which I see as a must have feature.

The pinseeker technology in the XE also provides a visual jolt through the lens when you’ve hit your target.

The only thing to be wary of is that the XE is heavier and that little bit larger then the average rangefinder. So if you prefer a small and compact design. This is not the one for you.

Overall a truly top of the range product that not only I trust but PGA tour players alike also.

Optics- Best Golf Rangefinder With Slope

Best Optics, Cobalt Q6 Slope
Cobalt Q6 Slope
Pros
  • Top Quality Optics
  • 7X Magnification
  • Bright Projection Display
  • Yards Or Meter Switch
  • Slope Readings
Cons
  • Only Shows Adjusted Distance When Slope Is Turned On

Cobalt Q-6 Slope Rangefinder

If your looking for a rangefinder with great optics and straightforward yet super reliable distances. We think this is a great option for you.

The Cobalt Q-6 Rangefinder offers some amazing features yet also finds a way to not overcomplicate its offerings.

  • Scope- 600 Yards
  • Measurement Metric- Yards/Meters
  • Tournament Legal- Yes
  • Slope On/Off Function- Yes

What I liked most about the Q-6 had to be the optics. While everything else performed solidly, the optics are simply the best around.

This Display is super bright, while the lens is 7x magnified. Which made all of my targets easily identifiable and easy to lock in on.

I found the Q-6 super easy to use with buttons that are easy to navigate. This made finding your preferred mode a quick and simple process.

What I didn’t necessarily like about the Q-6 rangefinder is that it only displays one distance at a time. Saying that I know a lot of my colleagues actually prefer this feature.

I think for me its just a mental thing that I like seeing both distances at the same time.

If you want it to show the adjusted slope you simply just flick the slope on/off switch on the side.

Overall, another fantastic product that we think many of you may really like!

Best Golf Brand, Callaway Pro 300
Callaway Pro 300 Rangefinder
Pros

Cons
  • Little Bit On The Small Side For Bigger Hands

Callaway Pro 300 Rangefinder

If your looking for a good rangefinder from a world renowned golf brand, that is also a little bit cheaper than the top of the ranges ones. Then, we think you might like this Callaway rangefinder.

The Callaway Pro 300 is a super reliable rangefinder that offers all the key features you need to zone in on those distances!

  • Scope- 1000 Yards
  • Measurement Metrics- Yards/Meters
  • Tournament Legal- Yes
  • Slope On/Off Function- Yes

One thing that I always look for in modern rangefinders is some sort of jolt or vibration confirmation.

This just ensures that you are hitting your actual target as opposed to something in the background.

The Pro 300 provides this and in a quick manner, something that I really like to see!

On top of this, you’re also getting slope adjusted distances. With an on/off switch that you can turn off to make the Pro 300 tournament legal.

Changing from meters to yards is also only a click of a button!
